Welcome!

If your job involves teaching math to kids, you've come to the right place. Math LINKS gives you information and tools to help you teach mathematics. Teaching math effectively is a challenge for a number of reasons. You need to plan your instruction, use interesting teaching methods, and assess what your students need. Here you will find resources that provide insights into curriculum, instruction and assessment. You'll also find tools that give you helpful information and activities you can use with your students.

Math is a science consisting of pattern and order. It is also an essential skill all students must learn. Elementary school math gives kids the background they need to master more complex math. There are many ways to organize the math curriculum. Of course, it needs to reflect your state's mathematic standards and cover the area specified in state benchmarks and frameworks. We will describe one way to think about the math curriculum. We will be basing this mainly on the NCTM 2000 standards. However, you will need to review your state standards and benchmarks, your local curriculum scope and sequence, and any state assessment information available to you.
